Digital Photography and Photo Manipulation

Objective:

This course is designed to give you an oversight of digital photography and photo manipulation. Students should ideally own a digital camera and bring along the camera or some digital photos for use during the course.  Students will be introduced to common camera controls, how to take a good shot and what to do with the digital photos once you have taken them, including file management, photo manipulation and how to share them.

Exposure controls explained: shutter, aperture and ISO
Lenses - focal length / Depth of field/Zoom
Colour and light and using the flash
Basic RAW processing

What Makes a Great Shot?
Common techniques for great shots

Understanding Image Size and Quality
Resolution, pixilation and interpolation
Image formats - RAW, JPG, TIFF
Photo Manipulation
Common programs - free and paid for
Changing contrast and brightness
Understanding and adjusting colour
Cropping, resizing and rotating
Sharpening
Common retouching techniques - removing red-eye etc.
Using layers
Saving files - JPG, TIF and PSD

Displaying, Sharing & Managing Your Photos
Creative techniques for sharing - Microsoft Photostory
Online publishing - JAlbum, Flickr
Printing - resizing

Venues and Delivery:

We offer this course on a regular basis at our training venue in at the Moodiesburn House Hotel - located on the A80 Cumbernauld Road, 10 minutes north of Glasgow, as well as offering in-house or bespoke training for HR departments or companies.
